We recommend you organize your information, including:

1) SAMPLES
a list of 5-7 sites which reflect the look-and-feel your website will convey: include reasons why you choose these sites


2) CONTENT
desired information on the site, typically pages of content for these types of pages:

HOME
ABOUT
PRODUCTS/SERVICES (images, if needed)
TESTIMONIALS or GALLERY
CONTACT US

Identify any functionality you need.

  • login and password section for members-only items
  • photo gallery
  • social networking integration
  • blog
  • calendar with RSVP functionality
  • member dues payment online
  • staff and board list
  • announcements
  • a slideshow on the front page

 

3) DOMAIN and HOSTING
Purchase a domain name like www.yoursite.com.
Purchase hosting (we utilize Linux hosting).

10k Hosting.com sells domain names.
For Drupal sites, we recommend hosting through Nexcess.net.


4) BUDGET/TIMELINE
What is your budget, timeline, and process for managing the website?

For maintenance, how will the website be updated after launch?

 

 

5) EXTRAS

Sign up for these additional tools to monitor your site:

Google Analytics account http://www.google.com/analytics for a service to track who visits your website

Spam catcher: we use Mollom or Recaptcha to prevent spam submissions to your site

Social networking: What are your social networking links?

 

6) GET AN ESTIMATE

Solutions such as Joomla!, Drupal, and Wordpress are open source, free, and straightforward to install. There is a steep learning curve and additional customization, but these may be an excellent solution for certain sites.
